First things to do after you get engaged

Okay, so you’re here because your significant other popped the question, right?! Well I have to say first, congratulations! However, you’ve just now realized you have a wedding to plan. Not sure what to do first? Let me get you started in your wedding planning process. Here are the first things to think about  after getting engaged.

Pick Your wedding Date

The first thing that needs to be done if you haven’t already is picking the date! This will set the stage for a lot of the other things you need to plan. Winter venues can be very different from summer venues, especially in Dallas, Texas. Definitely choose a time that first works best for you and your future spouse. And then ask yourself, “who do we really want at this wedding?!” These are the people that come next in the planning process. You then need to think about the availability of your favorite vendors. One thing that people forget about is planning around a particular florist or photographer you’ve been following on Instagram.

LET’S TALk BUDGET

Now is the time to chat about the budget. It’s not the most glamorous conversation, but it’s something that needs to be discussed between you and your fiance. This will determine so many factors about your wedding day! You also need to talk about the most important things to you about the wedding day. Guest list is another important, but forgotten step of the budgeting process. The size of the guest list can take a large portion of a budget. Maybe your priority is a lavish and huge wedding venue to fit all your favorite people. And your fiance might care most about the caterer. Take time to share your thoughts with each other and really listen. Make compromises that will help make your day the perfect day for both of you.

CONSIDER A WEDDING PLANNER

After chatting budget, if you budgeted for a wedding planner, this is where you would find one! Wedding planners have connections and a huge wealth of knowledge on weddings. This may be the first wedding you’ve planned, but they have had a lot of experience. They can help you save money and time getting things together. It helps get rid of some of the stress from planning something as important as your wedding day!

CHOOSE YOUR DALLAS WEDDING VENDORS

Once you have a planner, or decide to opt out, this is where you’ll find your vendors. If your budgeting was done with some vendors such as florists, DJs, and wedding photographers in mind, you can cross those off the list! Make sure to reach out quickly and also take into consideration how they do their pricing. Some things might cost a little more than you were hoping for, but they put a lot of time and effort into making your wedding day great! It’s okay to look for someone in your price range, but some vendors will be outside the budget and that is okay too.

DON’T FORGET TO HAVE FUN

Even though wedding planning can be a lot, take a minute to remember what it’s all about. Sit down with your significant other and look at some photos from your relationship. Don’t get too caught up in everything. It really comes down to the union of love between you and your significant other. Have some FUN. I’m so excited for you!

I’d love to help you along the way to your wedding day. Let’s start chatting about engagements, bridals, or first looks!
