Why Get First Look Photos?

Bride does first look with bridesmaids in downtown dallas wedding

Since the beginning of weddings, you would see your fiance for the first time as you walk down the aisle. The trend for the last few years has been to get first look photos apart from the family so it is a more intimate moment.  First look photos are photos that are traditionally taken when the groom sees the bride in her wedding dress for the first time the day of the wedding. Some people have taken first look photos with the bride and her father or the bride and her bridesmaids. The emotions of the first look is the reason I love to capture it! Let’s discuss why you need first look photos.

Why should you do a first look at all? Going back to the tradition from the past, seeing each other for the first time on the wedding day during the ceremony, sometimes you can be distracted from the moment. Everyone’s eyes staring you down as you share this important part of the day together. It is easier to focus on each other if you do it aside from everyone else.

In the moment, there are heightened emotions and it could distract from just enjoying it. So it’s important to capture the facial expressions so you can really take it in. The bride can be nervous to see the reaction of her groom. The groom is anxious to see his gorgeous soon-to-be spouse for the first time all dressed up. It is easy to get lost in trying to make everything perfect that you might forget exactly how it felt. When you get the photos back, you can romanticize this moment while only looking through the happiness you see.

Years down the road, it’s easy to get caught up in the day to day and forget the reason you got married. Looking through your first look photos together can really help get the conversation going. The moment you first laid eyes on each other can bring back the emotions of the day as well as the excitement of starting forever.

While it’s fun to share the way you looked at each other for the first time, having them there in the moment can take away from it. And you can always tell family and friends how it went down, but if you decide to get first look photos, you can show them how it went. They’ll be able to enjoy it along with you. Plus, if you have children someday, you can show them the love between the two of you through those photos.
